Abbazia di Novacella | Kloster Neustift

The Abbey of Novacella was founded in 1140 and it is located three kilometers to the north of Brixen.
The Abbey is a stunning chef-d'oeuvre of architecture and decorative arts.
The monastery still maintains itself economically through the boarding school, the convention centre and the cultivation and sales of agricultural products from culinary herbs and fruit to wines.
Wines from the Novacella/Neustift vineyards and monastery winery are famous throughout the world and have scooped the most coveted awards.

ps: The monastery is raising restoration funds. I found informations only in German here and here.

Summer Days in Brixen | Details

Between the things I love more in Brixen:
- Rivers: Brixen lies at the confluence of two rivers - the Isarco / Eisack and the Rienza / Rienz. Waters are clear like silver crystal. The window of my room was facing the Isarco and I was waking up at the energising sound of water every morning. I miss it!
- Bikes: the territory offers a lot of facilitation for cyclists and I must say that they are really respectful also outside of their ways. The two things may be linked or maybe not....
- Green and flowers: the climate is ideal for plants and Tyroleans have style decorating their outdoors.
- Hugo: that's the name of the local aperitif invented by Roland Gruber in 2005.

These are the ingredients to mix to serve two glasses:
4 cl elderflower syrup
2 lime cutted in slices and pressed
4 mint leaves
300 ml of Prosecco
2 cl sparkling water
Add as many ice cubes as desired and serve the aperitif in two wine glasses.

One day on the Plose Mountain

How to spend time in South Tyrol and to not stumble on cows? They're so sweet animals. Here two veals and their mum. Under, my preferred cake of South Tyrol, the Torta di Grano Saraceno (Tyrolian Buckwheat Cake) that you can taste preparing this recipe I found in Red Rooster. The one in the photo was served at  the mountain lodge Plosehütte (2447 meters height above sea level) with a big mug of redcurrant juice, delicious!

Plose Mountain, directly on the outskirts of Brixen, offers one of the most beautiful view of the Dolomites and a lot of trails and tracks to walk. Cable cars carry you on the summit of Plose. I arrived there very soon in the morning, it was so fairy. Look at the playground (under), it remembers me the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland and I hardly kept myself from going there and playing. I know I'm not more a child but next time I will go there even sooner;-)

ps: yes, the name of the mountain is the same of the famous mineral water - the Plose mineral water - because, obviously, the water springs are here. I wanted to say it anyway.

Back from Brixen

I'm back from my holidays in Brixen - South Tyrol -, it was a great time! We had a lot of relax, walking, biking, good reading and cakes, cakes, cakes :-)
We met a lot of nice people and I hope I can go back soon, maybe next winter.
I really recharged my batteries the last weeks there.
Now I'm working on photos (upper, a preview), and I will tell you more tomorrow and next days!
How were your holidays?

Holidays!! Too hot to work

Kanako

I'm leaving on Holidays! I'm going to the North of Italy, in Alto Adige, to breath some fresh air.
In Florence it's really hot now and I'm looking forward to arrive there, to sleep with pile blankets, to eat cakes (they have wonderful colored cakes with cream) and to walk, walk, walk all day!
I'll be back from the 26 with photos and news. If you can, stay connected with LAUsNOTEbook facebook page!

Before going to plan my luggage, I leave you some funny holidays tips from MyLittleParis. It's written in French but if you can't read it, Kanako sketches are worthing the surfing!
